Question: What is the best way to meet a pilot or flight attendant?

Can you ask to meet the pilot?

Youre welcome to check out the cockpit - just ask cabin crew. These days, most of us think the cockpit is out of bounds - but you can have a proper look if you ask nicely. If its too busy, the cabin crew will just tell you - theres no harm in asking. The pilots will be more than happy to answer any questions.

Flight attendants submit their monthly scheduling choices in a process called bidding, and the more seniority they have, the more theyre able to determine which routes they fly and days they get to take off.

Thousands of US airline pilots carry guns in the cockpit. Seventeen years ago, in the space of 74 minutes, four American planes were hijacked. The date was 11 September 2001. A year later, the Arming Pilots Against Terrorism Act was passed, allowing US pilots - working for US airlines - to carry guns in the cockpit.
