Rune Factory has a different feel than Harvest Moon I think. Its a little more self-aware, more creative with its plots, more character depth, and is a little funny too. Harvest Moon feels almost one-dimensional to me. And as others have said, in HM, farming is close to 100% of the game; in RF, its like 25%.
