Question: Why would a person stay in a relationship with someone who abuses them?

They may feel that theyve done something wrong, that they deserve the abuse, or that experiencing abuse is a sign of weakness. Remember that blame-shifting is a common tactic that their partner may use and can reinforce a sense of responsibility for their partners abusive behaviors.

Why do people attach to their abusers?

Attachment. Humans form attachments as a means of survival. Babies become attached to the parents or caregivers whom they depend on, and adults form attachments to others who provide comfort or support. When someones main source of support is also their abuser, a trauma bond can develop.
