Why is it called cosplay?

The Japanese term, Kosupure, anglicized as Cosplay, is a portmanteau of the English words costume play. The creation of the term is often attributed to Nobuyuki Takahashi of Studio Hard, who may have coined the word after attending the 1984 World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon) in Los Angeles, California.

What the heck is cosplay?

Cosplay is a hobby that allows people lose themselves in their character by essentially “being them” for a day. Stepping into the shoes of other people/ characters makes a fantastic hobby.

What are the basics of cosplay?

The most basic skills you need are sewing, and an understanding of sewing patterns. The very first costumes I made I used patterns I found online. If you dont know what youre doing, they arent going to turn out very well.

Is it OK to buy cosplay?

Yes, of course, it is. That being said, there is no rule of cosplay that forbids buying full costumes. And, its down to the cosplayers preference, because, at the end of the day, were all just doing this for fun.
