Question: What does it mean to install a pellet stove through a chimney?

Can you run a pellet stove through chimney?

A: You can vent a pellet stove either through a wall or through an existing masonry chimney. Some chimneys also require the installation of an approved metal liner that the pellet stove vent pipe passes through.

Do you need a chimney for a pellet burner?

One of the first questions that our customers ask is whether they need a tall chimney for a wood pellet stove? The short answer is no. The flue is a single wall or insulated flue that rises up fixed to the outside of the building or up through the chimney so that smoke can escape.

Do pellet stoves have to be vented outside?

Clearances from exterior fixtures and walls vary depending on local building codes, but all pellet stoves must vent to a location where materials such as leaves wont plug the opening and the pipe should be at least 3 feet away from the air intake for forced air appliances and gas meters.
